A gift is defined as an item you are sending to a friend or relative personally and should include a card or other notice indicating that it is a gift.*
With our current method of entry into the U.S., gifts are not exempt from taxes or duties upon purchase if the shipment or product is subject to them.
Similarly to U.S. and international-bound shipments with a value over $300 USD, all gifts leaving Canada are required to include an invoice. An original sales receipt can be used in place of an invoice unlike other content declarations. Be advised that gifts are not eligible for Chit Chats Insurance.
Please avoid gift wrapping items as international shipments cross borders, they are subject to inspection by Customs officials. For more information, please refer to the U.S. CBP's guide to sending gifts.
*If you are sending a gift to an international recipient (outside of the U.S.), Chit Chats International Tracked declares all shipments as merchandise for customs purposes and are therefore subject to the $800 USD value limit. While you may select “gift” on the platform, such shipments are not eligible for Chit Chats Insurance claims.
Note: This also applies to Chit Chats International Tracked to the U.S., as it is an international service that services the United States.
