The program is co-administered by Meslee Insurance Services and backed by Navigators Insurance Company (HUB International and Hartford Fire Insurance Company in Canada).
Before you purchase and add Chit Chats Insurance to your shipment, please ensure that it is eligible for insurance i.e. "insurable". Your shipment may be ineligible for Chit Chats Insurance even if insurance is available for the service you select.
Insurable shipments must follow specific criteria in terms of content, value, destination and postage type. Our insurance provider outlines this criteria in the coverage rules for Chit Chats insurance.
Alternatively, your shipment may be eligible for carrier insurance based on the postage type (e.g. Chit Chats Canada Tracked, USPS).
Contents
Certain items are difficult to insure, like items that are fragile, irreplaceable, or of high value. Often insurance providers will opt to not cover shipments containing these items. The following groups are widely considered to be uninsurable:
- Computer Chips
- Currency/Money, Gift Certificates
- Personal Goods including gifts and items not sold to a customer
- Perishables and items having a shelf-life of less than 3 years
- Precious/Semi-Precious Stones, Bullion
Chit Chats Insurance is not available for shipments that are "Gift" or "Returned Good" content type.

Value
Insurance coverage has a maximum value, which varies based on the type of service and the destination. Shipments bound for Canada are insured up to $400 USD except for Chit Chats Slim* and Chit Chats U.S. Slim* shipments which are only insured up to $50 USD. International and U.S. shipments have coverage up to $300 USD for eligible services.

If the value of the contents exceeds the maximum insurable amount and you file a claim, you will only receive the insured amount. For example, if you have a Chit Chats U.S. Edge package valued at $330 USD and postage was at $20 USD, the insurable value is $350 USD; however, our insurance provider covers only up to $300 USD for this service. Therefore, you would only be reimbursed $300 USD.
Your shipment may also have carrier insurance, which depends on the type of postage used. However, you must handle this independently, as it is not managed by Chit Chats.
Please be advised that all values are reimbursed in US dollars by our provider.
Destination
Insurance providers may assess specific countries as having a higher risk of loss or damage. Often these countries are not covered by the insurer and are considered to be uninsurable. These countries include:
Afghanistan, Algeria, Angola, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Burundi, Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Croatia, Cuba, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Liberia, Libya, Moldova, Montenegro, Myanmar (Burma), Nigeria, North Korea, Paraguay, Republic of the Congo, Russia, Serbia, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, Togo, Yemen, Zimbabwe

Postage Type
Currently, only fully-tracked postage options purchased on the Chit Chats platform are eligible for Chit Chats Insurance with the exception of our partially tracked Chit Chats Slim and Chit Chats U.S. Slim postage. Insurance coverage does not extend to postage purchased outside of the Chit Chats platform.
Apart from Chit Chats Slim and Chit Chats U.S. Slim, services lacking delivery confirmation such as partially tracked or non-tracked services are not insurable with Chit Chats Insurance but may include carrier insurance. Chit Chats Insurance cannot be added to the following platform postage types:
- USPS First Class Mail (Letter & Oversized Flat)
- USPS First Class Mail International
- USPS First Class Package International (select countries**)
Please also note that since return service is not provided for Chit Chats International Tracked, claims for the loss or damage may not be filed for shipments marked for return to sender via tracking updates.
*Service availability may vary.
**Chit Chats Insurance will only be available for shipments to select destinations with delivery confirmation.
Important! In order to be eligible to file a claim for your insured shipment, it must first be received by Chit Chats. Shipments are not covered while they are in transit to be dropped off at a Chit Chats. You cannot file claims for shipments that have been disposed of due to items being prohibited or returned to sender. If your lost package is located during the processing of your claim, it may be denied by the insurer. See timelines for filing claims.
