How to keep your account secure

Creating and maintaining strong, unique passwords is integral to keeping your data safe on the Chit Chats platform and beyond. Your Chit Chats account can contain sensitive information such as addresses, transactions and more. That’s why we recommend following our best practices for password security.

Choose a strong password

The most vulnerable passwords are short, common and easily guessed. When choosing a new password for your account, make sure you consider the following:

  • Content:  Avoid using words in your passwords and be sure to include a variety of alphanumeric characters (numbers and letters), capitalization, special characters (punctuation and symbols).
  • Length: Longer passwords are more difficult for others to guess. The password for your Chit Chats account must be a minimum of 8 characters long.

The Chit Chats platform has protections in place to prevent passwords that are easily guessed. If your password is recognized as being too common, you will be prompted to choose another password.

Keep your passwords private

Your password should be known only to you or those who require regular access to your Chit Chats account like an employee. If you ever suspect that there has been unauthorized access to your account, you should always check with those you have shared your password with first.

Change passwords regularly

Regularly changing your passwords lowers the risk of your password being guessed. Although many recommend changing your password every 30, 60 or 90 days, it is particularly important to change your password when:

  • You discover unauthorized activity on your account
  • The service has experienced a data breach
  • There is someone with a shared password who no longer requires account access

Avoid password reuse

Password reuse is a major risk, allowing a security breach on one service or platform to spread to others. For example, if you use your Chit Chats password with another service that becomes compromised, attackers or other malicious actors may try to use that information to access your Chit Chats account and other online accounts. Generating a unique password for your Chit Chats account is a way you can help avoid this.

Use a Password Manager

Of course, creating unique passwords does mean having to remember more passwords! A good way to handle this is to use a trusted password manager, such as 1PasswordLastPass or Google’s Password Manager

These services will help store passwords for you much more securely than on a piece of paper. Some password managers can even help you generate a randomized password. This makes it much easier to create and use long, complex passwords that are unique for each website you use.

Account security is a serious matter. It is your responsibility to keep your password information private. If you suspect that there has been suspicious activity in any of your online accounts, you should take immediate precautions to update your password and report the incident. If you ever notice suspicious activity in your Chit Chats account, please contact us at support@chitchats.com.
