Some shippers provide their customers with return postage labels in case a recipient needs to initiate a customer return. With Chit Chats return labels, you can offer your customers a flexible, and fully tracked return option for both Canadian and U.S. shipments. The best part is that you can download the postage to send to your customer at any point before or after the shipment’s journey. You will only be charged once our partner carrier scans the postage for the returned shipment.

Chit Chats return labels are not currently available for the following services:

  • Chit Chats Collect
  • Chit Chats Slim
  • Chit Chats International Tracked

How It Works

Once you’ve purchased postage for your shipment, you will be given the option to download a return postage label for your customer. The estimated fee for the return will be displayed in your Chit Chats account after you download the label. These fees will not be applied to your account until the return postage label is used.

For convenience, you can print and pack the return label inside your customers package, or download upon your customer’s request and send it digitally such as by email. Please make sure to complete a POA as it will be required for your shipment to re-enter Canada. If you opt to have Chit Chats manage your returns, you will be unable to access Chit Chats return labels for your shipments until we have an approved POA on file for your account.

If your customer decides to return their item, they can attach the new label to their original packaging and simply drop off the shipment at the nearest Canada Post or USPS post office. Once our partner carrier scans the package, you will receive notification of the return in your Chit Chats account. Your transaction history will reflect the cost of the return postage with a “Return Label Fee”. U.S. return shipments will also incur our standard “Return Fee” for processing.

To be eligible for return label service, shipments must fall within these dimensions:

Canadian Returns
  • Length <= 200 cm
  • Length + Girth <= 300cm
  • Girth = 2x (Width + Height)
U.S. Returns
  • Length <= 22 inches
  • Width <= 18 inch
  • Height <= 15 inch

If the dimensions exceed these limits a return label cannot be created.

Tracking Shipments with Return Labels

As your shipment makes its journey back to you, you can track its progress in the Returns tab of your Chit Chats account or from the partner carrier’s tracking page. After processing at a Chit Chats facility for internal processing, you’ll be able to find updates from our tracking page using the new shipment ID assigned to your return. Don’t forget that you can manage how your returns are processed by updating your preferred return method in your Chit Chats account.

Return Postage Fee

As we cannot guarantee that all shipments will be returned with the same exact service level and routing as they were originally sent with, all return postage fees will be displayed as an estimate and are subject to change. Once a return postage is scanned by our partner carrier and it makes its return, the postage fee applied to your account will reflect the actual cost of the return service. To avoid discrepancies in the return postage amount, we strongly recommend asking your customers to return the shipment in its original packaging.

Along with the return postage fee, U.S. shipments returned with Chit Chats return labels will also incur return processing fee. As a reminder, your account will reflect this fee after we process your return at one of our facilities. Canadian shipments returned with Chit Chats return labels will not incur this processing fee. You can always find the details of any return fees in your transactions including tracking numbers and shipment IDs.

To avoid disruptions to your workflow, we recommend keeping your account balance in good standing by regularly adding credits to cover return label fees. To do this please either manually reload credits, or take advantage of our auto reload setting available in your account.

Reminder: All return shipments must be able to be associated with a Chit Chats account (either with client ID or client account name). If a return is unidentifiable or cannot be associated with an account, it will be disposed of or rejected.
